Aquaticus Highlights
Cockpit
The cockpit on the Hylas 56 always deserves special consideration. This design features a large center cockpit on a boat that is easily handled by two people. All electric Anderson winches within easy reach and excellent visibility are hallmarks of the Hylas 56 cockpit. As with nearly every area of Aquaticus, the custom touches elevate her beyond other vessels in her class. She has a custom dodger & bimini, designer cockpit cushions, a low-profile pedestal, upgraded line clutches, and even grey caulk in the teak cockpit sole. Every detail was considered in order to make the transition from sailing to relaxing on the hook seamless.
Hull & Deck
Aquaticus hull form is easily recognized as a Hylas even from afar. She has a nearly plumb bow and powerful lines that give the correct impression of a yacht that can handle the conditions she is asked to. Her literal “shining moment” comes at the turn of her newly painted Awlgrip Flag Blue hull to her cream colored decks in the form of a solid, polished stainless steel toe rail. This elegant detail ties her powerful sail plan and hull together while giving a distinct look that is always remarked on.
Sail Plan
Imagine a boat that was built to sail wherever her owners want to explore. A boat that is fast and powerful under sail because every detail was carefully considered during build. Everything from custom stainless line organizers to retractable lazy jacks help make this Hylas 56 stand out. A custom Offshore carbon rig and park avenue boom are the foundation of Aquaticus’s sailing abilities. Each system related to this lightweight rig has been optimized to make this Hylas 56 both easy and fun to sail. 24 volt Anderson electric winches and 24 volt Reckmann headsail furler allow sails to be trimmed to perfection. The list of rigging upgrades and customizations provide owners with a high performance boat that is safe and simple to sail.
Custom Details
Aquaticus features custom details and creative solutions from the way her systems have been engineered to fine interior details. When stepping aboard it is clear that she has been carefully considered throughout. Her beautiful stainless steel toe rail and low profile rig set the tone but this is only the beginning of what makes her unique. The interior has every option a cruising boat could need to be enjoyed. An inviting and tasteful color palette highlights the stunning joiner work and adds to all of the function features. Aquaticus was engineered and designed to be an enjoyable and comfortable sailing yacht. Each detail and upgrade come together to help her achieve these goals.
Interior Spaces
Throughout the history of yachting, interior design and layout has always been as important as performance and systems. Comfortable interiors that have ample space for both owners and guests are often desired. Many modern sailboats have been drawn around interiors but in many cases these designs sacrifice performance too much. With the Hylas 56, Frers drew a sailboat first and then created an interior that meets every standard today’s owners could hope for. Aquaticus takes those parameters and makes them even more appealing. She is noticeably clean, crisp, and contemporary but still features traditional woodwork and cabinetry. She has three cabins, a large galley, and a salon that owners can spend hours enjoying on a rainy day. Access to all equipment and the engine room are benefits that are hidden by the beauty of her cabinetry and interior styling.
Galley
The Hylas 56 galley is always remarked on by anyone who first goes down below. The passageway galley is as big as many home counter spaces but remains a safe space to work while underway. At anchor or dockside the galley feels like it is part of the main living area by being open to the salon. Aquaticus has a perfect galley for two people who enjoy cooking together or for entertaining. She has a centerline sink set into Corian countertops opposite ample refrigeration and an efficient three burner Force Ten stove. This galley can be used, enjoyed and will live up to the tasks owners desire.
Cabins
A well-ventilated, bright, large aft cabin with ensuite head sets the tone for the cabins on Aquaitcus. This cabin has opening ports and a large overhead hatch but also has independent, reverse cycle air conditioning for hot summer days or late fall sailing. A custom mattress and ample storage help owners enjoy their time aboard. The two forward cabins are set up for guests. The port cabin is an open cabin and can act as a sea berth for long passages or have the berth extended to sleep an additional couple. The VIP forward has a custom mattress and private access to the forward head. The entire interior is lit with LED lights and has multiple opening deck hatches with shades. Aquaticus can be enjoyed by a couple or with multiple guests and everyone will be comfortable.
Compared to the Hylas 54, stepping aboard the Hylas 56 one will notice a little more freeboard, a much larger cockpit, and restyled salon windows, but the same great ergonomics that made her older sisters such fantastic boats. Owners continue to guide builds and realize their dream boats by making thoughtful decisions throughout the process. Aquaticus is a fantastic example of how owners can take an already exceptional design, make small adjustments and create a vessel that is even more outstanding.
